My Approach

If you’re considering requesting counseling from me, here are some things you need to know:

  • I am not a licensed counselor.  It is because of this that I can offer to work with you anonymously, and promise not to keep any permanent records on you.  I can also guarantee that I will not report you to legal authorities regardless of what you share with me.  None of these things would be possible if I were trying to maintain a license.  There are benefits to working outside of the system.
  • I typically schedule 60 minute sessions, but of course you can always opt for shorter.
  • Because we have to be able to communicate well in order for me to help you, you must be able to speak and understand English.  Many of my clients speak English as a second or third language.
  • I believe that your relationship with the God who created you is the most important aspect of your life.  Any advice I give you will be designed to help your soul thrive in the long-term.  That said, I will never pressure you to believe what I believe.  If our beliefs differ too much for my kind of advice to be useful to you, I’ll let you know.
  • I am very different than a typical “Christian.”  If you have been burned by Christian counselors in the past, I would definitely encourage you to talk with me so that you can experience how positive it can be when someone who is actually listening to God advises you.  God does not shun people because of their sexual struggles, addictions, temptations, appearance, gender, ethnicity, or anything else.  God fully understands and has great compassion for every kind of human struggle.  Throwing Bible verses at someone is a lousy way to help them, and you won’t get any Bible homework from me.  Although I am well-versed in Christian Scriptures, I never talk about the Bible in a counseling session unless my client wants to do so.  That said, if you think the Bible says somewhere that God could never love or accept someone like you, then we should definitely talk, and I will help you understand how you are misinterpreting those passages.
  • God is a positive Being.  I’m a positive counselor. I emphasize hope.  There is always hope.  Being perfect is never the goal.  Moving forward is the goal, and there is always a way to move forward.
  • I work for free, but I work at a professional level.  That means I’m always on time, prepared, and focused in our sessions. I never multitask when I’m talking to clients (except to take notes about what they’re saying, if needed).
  • I don’t minimize compassion, and I don’t minimize truth.  If you’re headed down an unhealthy road, I’ll tell you.  But I’ll also help you identify some doable steps that you can take to move in a better direction.  Most importantly, I will help you identify the root causes of your behavior, so that you can better understand yourself.
  • I’m realistic.  Most problems can’t be fixed overnight, but that does not have to be viewed as a bad thing.  The key to improving your quality of life is to understand yourself better, improve your priorities, and get a “big picture” understanding of how God can use your current struggles to help you reach some fabulous places.
  • Every counselor has a limited scope of issues that they advise on.  I do not offer medical advice, I don’t promote specific products, and I don’t recommend books or other therapists.  My focus is on spiritual and psychological issues.  Here are just a few examples of things that I can help you with:
    • Gender identity issues (including trans, bi, & homosexualism).
    • Sexual issues (including fears of being touched, trapped, forced and/or exposed during intercourse).
    • Bestiality.
    • Pedophilia (I just love working with pedophiles, and there is a lot I can do to get you out from under all of the shame, confusion, & self-loathing).
    • Child molestation (if you’re actively molesting kids, I can help you find better ways to deal with your internal stress, and remember that you can choose to be anonymous).
    • I can help you with the psychological/emotional stresses that are related to erectile dysfunction, impotency, infertility, miscarriages, & abortions.
    • Recovering from trauma (physical, emotional, sexual, & spiritual).
    • Recovering from religious cults.
    • Recurring nightmares (dealing with core issues is the key to making them stop).
    • Analysis of stressful dreams (it’s easier than it sounds).
    • Prepping for the stress of being on trial (I’ll help you whether or not you’re guilty of the crime).
    • Boundaries in relationships (when to draw them and how to hold them).
    • Rage issues.
    • The need to physically assault others (including rape, beating, & torture).
    • Addictions (including all types of porn).
    • Sadism and masochism (including BDSM and the need to torture or be tortured).
    • Theological issues (including God lying, God abandoning you, & a total loss of faith).
    • Pastoral burnout (how to avoid it, and how to recover from it).
    • Church stresses.
    • Moral dilemmas.
    • Dealing with guilt and/or shame regarding your past (I love helping people move forward in life–including murderers, abusers, and all manner of convicts).
    • Obtaining forgiveness from God, people, or both.
    • Dating questions, problems & how to draw healthy boundaries.
    • Parenting struggles.
    • Dealing with difficult parents or other family members.
    • Serving God: when to do it, how to do it, and how to stop feeling guilty that you’re never doing enough.
    • Bible questions: I can help you understand troubling passages and I can teach  you how to stop allowing the book to be a source of guilt or stress in your life.
    • Prayer struggles.
    • Demon problems (including possession, exorcism, and how to protect yourself from those who want to abuse or “deliver” you).
    • Ghost problems.
    • Recovering from military & law enforcement traumas.
    • Dealing with death (including survivor guilt, abortion, & intentional or accidental killings).
    • Divorce (yes, sometimes it is a good idea).
    • Peer pressure & bullying.
    • Understanding and releasing grudges.
    • Concerns about Divine judgment (including fears that you’re cursed, that God hates you, or that you’ve done an “unpardonable” sin).
